Driving an EV

We’ve finsihed our Tackling Tasmania Road Trip. After 4500km and 11 days we’re home and how did it go? Better than we could have hoped! Our fears never came to pass and the car performed faultlessly.

From Launcestion, we head back on the Spirit of Tasmania. after some last day Tassie fun. We visit a cheese factory, Cataract Gorge and another icecreamery before we get back on the ferry to the mainland.

We’re up nice and early, packed and ready to go, but we’re not getting in the car just yet. We’re just a block from Salamanca Markets.  There’s a whole street blocked off and full of market stalls to explore. After an hour and a half of browsing and buying, we’re only three quarters of the

Tackilng Tasmania is our journey around Tasmania in an EV. Today we’re off to Port Arthur.

Today we travel across the width of Tasmania from Strahan to Hobart. Over mountains and into valleys through perfect hydro-electric country. We’re bound for the capital of Tasmania.

Tackling Tasmania Raod Trip: West Coast. We descend back down to the coast at Strahan, visiting Macquarie Harbour and local timber industries.

Tackling Tasmania has to include Cradle Mountain. Don’t let a lack of charger infrastructure in the National Park deter you.

After getting off the Spirit of Tasmania, we visit Burnie and the cute little historic Stanley, climb The Nut and get the car filthy with some gravel roads.

The first step to Tackling Tasmania in your EV is getting across Bass Strait. Unless you have some sort of James Bond type car, this will mean driving on to the Spirit of Tasmania and travelling across the strait in comfort.

Tackling Tasmania: we first had to battle school holiday traffic down the Hume Highway from Sydney. Will the chargers work? Will there be long queues like the media depicts? We’ve bitten off quite a bit for our very first proper EV Road Trip. Will we make it?
